The Mechanicats, Team 13227, have had a successful 2017-18 season signified by the advancement to the Wylie East Regional while graciously taking home a trophy at every competition despite being a rookie team. As an all girl rookie team, The Mechanicats main focus is Women in STEM. In May of 2018, members of 13227 were invited to a Women in Tech Coalition forum in which they met and connected with a number of inspiring women in STEM pathways. Starting in September of 2018, the Mechanicats will become members and hosts of a Society of Women Engineers (SWENext) club, for girls interested in STEM that do not necessarily have an interest in the robotics focus. Another way the team connects with girls interested in STEM in the community, is to go to local feeder patterns schools and help young girls build robots. 13227, along with the other FTC teams, were featured in the "Lakewood Advocate", a local magazine based in the East Dallas area.
