The FTC game this year includes picking up foam blocks and placing them in columns and rows. Their robot, Becky, was inspired by the Mechanicats environment. They used household items such as a drawer slide and door hinge to solve design problems. The drawer slide was utilized as a lift system and the door hinge allowed the intake and lift system to fold into the robot to stay within the 18 in. x 18 in. x 18 in. constraint. To stabilize the lift system, the Mechanicats engineered a locking mechanism that was inspired by a folding ladder. Rather than arms  that grab the glyph, the girls decided to take unique route and created arms that intakes the blocks in through 2 conveyor belts. This proved to be less effective than expected but there was not another team with the same design.
