Established in 2016, the Red Scare was the first FTC team at Woodrow. Their main outreach and mission was to reach out to the Deaf community, starting with their first deaf teammate, Angel Lopez. Due to the fact that Woodrow is a member of the Dallas Regional Day School for the Deaf, meaning that deaf students from across Dallas Independent School District are designated to attend Woodrow, there was a lot of opportunity for impact. With the help of one of the school's deaf-ed interpreters, Joel Hill, the team gained more deaf students and impacted the other FTC teams by teaching American Sign Language (ASL), helping host a Family Fun Fair for deaf students, and trying to increase awareness for students with disabilities competing in FIRST.
