WHO ARE THE ROBOCATS?

The Woodrow Wilson High School RoboCats were originally founded in 2012, and made their first appearance as Team 5242 during the 2014 “Aerial Assist” season. Our team’s origins were humble, with our entire program operating out of an empty 6-by-6 foot closet, one classroom, and a hallway. We've since added another closet, a few more classrooms, and added the cafeteria to our hallway practice space! Then, in a Cinderella-style story we were fortunate to partner with 2 world champion teams from Texas to win the first-ever Texas UIL Robotics State Championship in 2016. Interest exploded and we then formed 4 new First Tech Challenge competitions teams, including the all-girl Mechanicats team that advanced to the State Championships in their rookie season this last year. Our mission is to build leaders who impact our community as they build teams who build robots and create positive change for our communities.

WHAT IS STEMCONNECT?

STEMConnect is a series of robotics-based summer camps launched originally in Austin, Texas as an outreach project by FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Team 2468 (Team Appreciate). STEMConnect camps have now spread across the United States and to international locations. FRC Team 5242 (The Robocats) from East Dallas is now launching our own STEMConnect camps across DFW. We're proud to be partnering in Lakewood with White Rock United Methodist Church and Studio Bella for both summer and school year camps. As well we are launching a new partnership with our friends at the brand new TBK Makerspace, which is opening this summer 2019.
